NICE guidelines for ME – judicial review begins today

By • Feb 11th, 2009 • Category: News

The judicial review into the NICE guidelines for CFS/ME begins today.  These are proposed guidelines for the care and treatment of ME sufferers in England and Wales. (Scotland will be getting its own CFS/ME guidelines later in the year.)

The NICE guidelines were branded unfit for purpose by a number of ME charities, chiefly for their reluctance to follow the World Health Organisation’s lead on classification of ME as a neurological disorder, and their reliance on managing the condition with psychologically-based therapies.  Two members of the public with ME have challenged the guidelines in the High Court.  The hearing is expected to last two days.
