About edmesh

By • May 21st, 2008 • Category: About Us

We are based in Edinburgh, but we have members across the Lothians and also throughout Scotland and in England. Although our core activities such as open meetings, informal social get-togethers and social events/outings are based in and around Edinburgh, anyone is welcome to join regardless of where you live.

Although most of our members have M.E., we also welcome carers, family and friends – indeed, anyone with an interest in M.E. or CFS.

We aim to provide support, information and friendship to people affected by this illness by offering the following:

• Quarterly newsletters
• Open meetings with guest speakers
• Informal social get-togethers
• Telephone contact group
• Postal library service
• Members’ social events & outings

We have members who attend the Cross-Party Group on M.E. in the Scottish Parliament, helping to inform MSPs and hoping to influence Government policy: for example, to press for more funding for research into the biology of M.E./CFS.

In order to raise awareness with the relevant health professionals, we also have members on the Lothian Health Board Managed Clinical Network Development Group for CFS/M.E., which plans future health and social care in our area, as well as on both the North and South Edinburgh Public Partnership Forums.

edmesh is a charitable organisation funded by members’ subscriptions, and occasional donations from grant-making trusts. We are run by a small Committee of volunteers, most of whom themselves have M.E., or care for someone who does. We do not have an office space or permanent staff.

We hold membership of/are affiliated with:

Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council (EVOC)

Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO)

Long Term Conditions Alliance Scotland (LTCAS)

Scottish Disability Equality Forum (SDEF)

Lothian Centre for Integrated Living (LCIL)

Volunteer Centre Edinburgh

Our charity number is SC 001024 and we are registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
